Royals pitcher Danny Duffy was cited for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol Sunday evening in a Kansas City suburb.
WHB radio first reported the news Tuesday. Online records show Duffy, 28, was cited at 7:35 p.m. Sunday in Overland Park, Kansas. The Royals lost 12-0 in Cleveland earlier that day and flew home following the game.
Duffy last pitched Aug. 22 against Colorado and was placed on the disabled list Saturday with a left elbow impingement. The team had hoped he would only miss one start with the injury.
The left-hander is 8-8 with a 3.78 ERA in 131 innings this season.
Duffy's arraignment is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sept. 19 — when the Royals are set to be in Toronto.
